Updates now Available for DF Solutions products
Posted by David Perry on 01 May 2012 03:32 PM
Hi Subscriber,

DF Solutions has released several updates today (1st May 2012).  They all offer exciting new features and enhancements.  The updates apply to:

1) DF Solution's Base3D/Base/Link/Sonix products
(Access by pressing POWER, then 4 on your IR remote).

Beta Firmware v3330 offers the following enhancements since the last Beta announcement:

* When browsing Movies in your Video Library, you can now see:
 - Actor and Director Pictures
 - Character names alongside the Actor listings
* Improved speed of detection of new video content on NAS/local-HDD.
Actor and Director info have now been given their own 'info-pane'
 - This may lead to new goodies and features being available in the future... but no promises!
* New Setting to control whether disc is ejected after it has finished being imported
* Improved speed of detection of other servers on the network.
* INSTALLER FEATURE: When pre-amp volume range is limited via 'Output_Settings.xml', servers rescale and can still use the full-range of volume 'sliders' on client apps (iPad/Android/AMX/etc)
* INSTALLER FEATURE: Power, then 7 on IR remote is a discrete command that will open the DVD/CD drive.
* Bug fix for handling of cover-arts with non-English characters in URL
Various other low-level, rarely seen bug-fixes / tweaks.

This beta release is a production Release-Candidate.  If no issues are found, this version will be pushed to all servers via the internet as a Production Update.

2) Android Room Commander app

v1.1 offers the following:

* Missing Movie/CD covers now correctly showing (there was a bug when the cover-art URL had non-English characters in it)
* Actor Roles and Images are now available within the 'Movie Info' screens.
* 'Automatic Zone Detection' now works for latest 2012 server product-range (server firmware 3330 or above required)

3) PC Room Commander software

This is a minor, non-essential update which fixes a couple of rarely-encountered issues.  There is no need to update this unless you have been directed to via Technical Support:

Please feel free to contact us / give feedback on any of the above!

Best regards,

The DF Solutions team

New Beta Firmware Available
Posted by David Perry on 29 March 2012 11:55 AM
Hi Subscriber,

DF Solutions Base3D/Base/Link/Sonix products can now access and upgrade to a new Beta version (rev 3245) as of today, 29th March 2012.
(Access by pressing POWER, then 4 on your IR remote).

There are some BIG changes, so pay attention to all the goodies

1) Spotify Functionality has been upgraded to the latest Spotify API revision. This means:

 • Performance improvements
 • Support for Facebook login
 • ‘Pinning’ of Album now works within TV GUI
 • Track Sorting issue ( + subsequent incorrect track playback) via iPad is fixed

2) Fully Automated NAS Selection by Server (when importing a CD or movie)

Let’s consider an installation of a DF Solutions Base3D, sitting on a network where there are 3 NAS devices, that will be used to store movies.
The Base has been configured to ‘monitor’ these NASes, and so under ‘Managed Network Folders’->Video, you will see 3 entries:

                                \\nas1\video
                                \\nas2\video
                                \\nas3\video

The usability issue that now exists is that when a user tries to import a movie, he will be given a choice of which NAS to import the movie to.
For users who don’t understand IT, or haven’t been involved in the installation of their system, this is a bad thing! Choice adds complexity.  Choice adds confusion, and it slows the user down.
And things only get worse if the user then picks a NAS that is almost full… the import will still but then may abort ½ way through if all space on that  NAS fills up… that'll just annoy the user!

So, we have come up with a solution!  Let’s remove the choice...
Let the server analyse the available import locations at that time, and let the server decide where to import the movie.
When the user pushes ‘GO’ to import a movie, the DF Solution’s server now automatically goes through the list of managed folders, and finds the 1st share that has enough space to import the movie (DVD or Bluray).
If there is not enough space on any NAS to import the movie, it will then check and import onto it’s local HDD (if there’s enough space) as a last resort.  (import to NAS is preferred because of the RAID-protected nature of the medium).

So in summary, we’ve implemented a waterfall-failover mechanism for all ‘Managed’ NAS devices, to prevent issues when a NAS is full or has disappeared off the network.
We think this will significantly improve matters for end-users and installers, by reducing the amount of confusion/technical questions raised post-install.

3) Minor speed Improvements to loading of Audio Library on TV GUI

4) Support for Russian characters when reading ID3 info from MP3 files.

5) View System Info now gives full feedback on available storage across all ‘Monitored’ NAS devices.

6) RSS Items in TV GUI are now sorted by date

7) Bluray Region for server can now be specified within Movie Settings

Hopefully these changes are of interest to you!

Best regards,

David Perry
